Cordless convenience is here to stay with help from Mirka’s FBS-B

Mirka UK is expanding its belt sander range with the new lightweight Mirka® FBS-B battery file belt sanders. The new FBS-B 13 and FBS-B 10 tools have been designed to make cleaning up welding seams and spot welds easier and more efficient.

The Mirka® FBS-B 13, designed for wider belts, and the Mirka FBS-B 10, designed for narrower belts, both provide the user with rapid and efficient material removal, and can handle multiple demanding applications with ease. Because the sanders are both cordless, accessing difficult spots to work in is easy as there are no cables or hoses hampering their ingress.

Their lightweight ergonomic design ensures the user is comfortable when gripping the tool, which, in turn, helps reduce the stress on their hands and joints. In addition, safety is a key component of their design, highlighted by the protective flap on the handle that shields the user from the sparks that are produced during the sanding process. Alongside this, the user has a step-less trigger, so the tool’s speed can easily be adjusted in stages between 2,200 rpm and 17,000 rpm with the help of its handle-mounted buttons.

The tools also have several ways in which downtime can be reduced. The first is the open belt protection system, which enables fast and easy belt changes, and the second is the convenient placement of a knob that makes the adjustment of the belt easy, so the belt is aligned correctly before work begins.

When these tools are combined with Mirka’s file belts and surface conditioning belts, they ensure a good removal rate and a high-quality finish, whether they are grinding spot welds or removing paint.

In addition, the tools are powered by either a 2.5Ah battery for shorter tasks and if the user requires the tool to be in use for longer periods there is the 5.0Ah battery. These batteries have been designed to provide enough power so that the tool delivers the same high performance and efficiency as pneumatic models. They also come with Bluetooth technology as standard. This means they can easily be paired with the myMirka app and operators can monitor vibration levels and ensure the tool is performing at an optimum level.

Steve Smith, national sales manager ART for Mirka UK, says, “We are seeing a concerted move towards cordless tools by businesses. To ensure we meet this demand, the R&D team has developed the FBS-B, the latest addition to our cordless range. We believe these tools will help users maximise productivity by making easy work of cleaning up welding seams or spot welds no matter their location on the vehicle.”
